Executive Staff

Lisa Duty, Ph.D., Executive Director, Leadership Ohio

As Executive Director of Leadership Ohio, Dr. Lisa Duty is focused on inspiring action and innovation in service to the Great State of Ohio. A lifelong advocate of learning and inspired citizenship, Duty received her Ph.D. in Global Education from The Ohio State University with cognates in Democratization and Education Transformation.

In addition to her leading role with Leadership Ohio, Duty is the Founder of Innovation Partners America, a national education and nonprofit consultancy that has helped launch game changing nonprofits like Imagine Worldwide and counseled global start-ups like Teach the World Foundation.

Prior to Innovation Partners, Duty was a Founding Partner at The Learning Accelerator, Senior Director of Innovation at KnowledgeWorks and an adjunct faculty member at The Ohio State University’s (OSU) College of Education and Human Ecology. She currently lives in Reynoldsburg with her husband Jason.


Board of Trustees

Leadership Ohio’s Board of Trustees, many of whom are graduates of Leadership Ohio, have leadership knowledge, skills, and experiences ranging from federal and state government, the Pentagon, and publicly traded companies on the NYSE -- and across sectors such as genetics, surveillance, history, aviation, energy,  law and aerospace engineering. The Trustees are committed to the success of Leadership Ohio’s past and future graduates.

President | Todd Kleismit, Director of Community and Government relations, Ohio History Connection

Todd Kleismit is a 2013 graduate of Leadership Ohio and now serves as board president. Kleismit is the director of community and government relations for the Ohio History Connection, the state’s nonprofit history partner. Kleismit is an Army veteran of Operation Desert Storm who returned to Ohio to pursue college and a career that has included roles in the private sector, the Ohio Senate, U.S. House of Representatives and the nonprofit sector.

Kleismit earned his bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Bowling Green State University and master’s degree in Public Administration from Ohio University. He was the Leadership Ohio class of 2013 “Leader Among Leaders” award recipient. He also serves as a board member for the Tom E. Dailey Foundation. Kleismit resides in Columbus with his wife Lisa and their daughter, Grace.

Vice President | Jim Murray, Attorney, Thomas J. Murray & Associates

James W. Murray is a public interest attorney and consumer protection advocate with diverse cross-sector professional experience with the Supreme Court of California, the Coro Center for Civic Leadership and Habitat for Humanity. Prior to returning to his home state of Ohio, Murray was the John Gardner Postgraduate Program Director at Stanford University’s Haas Center for Public Service. He was a member of the inaugural cohort of Presidio Institute Cross Sector Leadership Fellows.

Murray is now a member of Ohio Bar Association, the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association and the Ohio Association for Justice. He is a Rotarian and proud graduate of Boston College and Notre Dame Law School.

As a member of the 2017 class of Leadership Ohio, Murray was awarded the “Leader Among Leaders” Award. Murray and his wife have three children and reside in Huron, Ohio.

Treasurer | Claudia Kraly, Director of Operations, University Hospitals

Claudia Kraly is the Director of Operations for University Hospitals of Cleveland where she has provided service and leadership for 45 years. University Hospitals Cleveland was most recently recognized as a Best Hospital for 2018-19 by U.S. News & World Report, and ranked second among all hospitals in Ohio.

Claudia stated her tenure at University Hospitals in 1973, as a student in the University Hospitals of Cleveland School of Technology, receiving a Certificate in Radiologic Science in April 1975.  She is both a Registered Radiologic Technologist and a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from the University of St. Francis, later studying Business Administration and Management at Trident University International.  In addition to her service with Leadership Ohio, she is a member of the Society of Imaging Informatics in Medicine and the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging.

Claudia is a lifelong resident of Northeast Ohio, currently living in Geauga County with her husband Jim.  They have 2 daughters and 5 grandchildren.

Assistant Treasurer | Kamal Atwat, Director of IT Technical and Biomedical Engineering Services, Memorial Health System

Kamal Atwat is the Director of IT Technical and Biomedical Engineering Services at Memorial Health System, a not-for-profit integrated health system lead by a volunteer board of community members committed to providing comprehensive care services that meet the needs of the Marietta region. Specializing in leadership in biomedical engineering and IT services, Atwat is also a veteran of the University Health Network – Canada, Siemens Medical - Canada, Siemens Medical – USA and Siemens Medical – Turkey.

Atwat holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from University of the Bosphorus (Bogazici), Turkey, as well as a master’s degree in Health Administration from the University of Toronto, Canada. He is a Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE), Certified Health Executive (CHE), and Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL), Ohio Clinical Engineering Association (OCEA) and the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Secretary | Phillip J. Hinson, PE, Deputy Capital Asset Manager, Veterans Affairs Healthcare Network Serving Ohio, Indiana and Michigan

Phillip J. Hinson is the Deputy Capital Assets Manager for the Veterans Affairs Healthcare Network Serving Ohio, Indiana and Michigan. He supports the capital planning, engineering, construction and facility operations programs at eleven VA healthcare systems with over 500 buildings and annual infrastructure improvement programs across the network in excess of $200 million. Prior to starting with the VA in 2013, Hinson served six years on active duty as an officer in the U.S. Air Force which included a deployment on a Provincial Reconstruction Team. For his service in Afghanistan, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the U.S. Army Combat Action Badge.

In addition to his role as a Leadership Ohio board member, Hinson serves on the board of the Central Ohio Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University, a master’s degree in Public Policy from New England College, and is a registered professional engineer in Ohio. Hinson has been recognized with several civic and engineering awards, including in 2018 when he was selected as both the VA Engineer of the Year and one of the top ten Federal Engineers of the Year. He is originally from Westlake, Ohio, but now makes his home in Westerville.

Assistant Secretary | Tracie Campbell, Marketing and Advertising Coordinator, AEP Ohio

Tracie Campbell is the Marketing and Advertising Coordinator for AEP Ohio’s Energy Efficiency programs. She has 30 years of experience in the energy industry. Campbell has served in various capacities in her career with AEP including Office Supervisor, Call Center Supervisor and Quality and Training Supervisor for six AEP Call Centers across 11 states. One of her greatest accomplishments was being part of the team which designed AEP’s Hurricane, WV Call Center from the ground up.

Campbell serves her community through various organizations including the Big Brother Big Sisters School Mentoring program, as a Ready When Disaster Strikes Red Cross Volunteer, Salvation Army Kettle Bell Ringer, and member of the Deaconess Board of the Christ Memorial Missionary Baptist Church. Campbell is the Past President of the American Association of Blacks in Energy Columbus, Ohio Chapter, currently chairs the fundraising and scholarship committee, and serves the Board of Directors. Through her endeavors she has raised over $400,000 for the scholarship program.

Campbell holds a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia State University where she majored in Marketing and an MBA in Organizational Leadership and Development from Ohio’s Franklin University. She has been married more than 34 years to her husband Greg and they have two grown sons -- Jeffree and Gregory.

Carrie Adkins, Executive Director, GE Healthcare

Carrie Adkins began her career at GE in 2006, rising from several successive roles to that of Executive Director of GE Healthcare (NYSE:GE) in 2018 -- leading a corporation within the GE portfolio accounting for $126.7M in annual revenue and 295,000 employees worldwide. Prior to GE, Adkins began her career in the corporate world as a Senior Sales Executive with Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:LLY).

Adkins earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Kent State University and has completed executive training such as Executive Conversations (GE Healthcare) and Sg2 Analytics Based Health Care. Additionally, Carrie is a member of GE’s Academic Forum, GE’s Women’s Network and a Volunteer for GE’s Regional Fundraiser Counsel. Adkins was voted “Leader Among Leaders” as a proud graduate of Leadership Ohio Class of 2016.

Nan Baker, Cuyahoga County Council Member

Cuyahoga County Council Member Nan Baker is highly regarded for her service across four terms (2009 to 2016) in the Ohio House of Representatives for the 16th House District. Cuyahoga County Council District 1 and Ohio House District 16 represent the same cities; Westlake, Rocky River, North Olmsted, Fairview Park and Bay Village. As a member of the Ohio House, Nan chaired the Economic Development Committee always striving toward creating an environment for jobs.  As an Ohio House Representative, her varied career highlights include securing $1 million in funding for rape crisis centers across Ohio and as a County Council Member securing a $1.2 million grant dedicated to the reconstruction of the Brad Street Landing Pier in Rocky River. Baker was reelected in November 2018 to continue her service on the Cuyahoga County Council through December 2022.

County Council Member Baker was also a business owner for more than 30 years. As an active member of the West Shore Chamber of Commerce for two decades, she served as President for two years and currently serves on the Board of Trustees. She was also elected as a member of the Westlake Board of Education and served three terms on Westlake City Council. She stays active with her community as a member of Westlake Kiwanis and the West Shore Republican Club.

County Council Member Baker has been honored with numerous awards throughout her career spanning the prestigious Cleveland State University David C. Sweet Award bestowed on distinguished alumni for elected service to her induction in 2016 into the Olmsted Falls High School Hall of Fame.

Baker holds an associate degree in business from Lorain County Community College, a bachelor’s degree from Baldwin Wallace College, and is a graduate of the Leadership Academy of Cleveland State University, College of Urban Studies.

Keith Bowman, Ph.D., Deputy Chief, Capabilities Integration Division of the Air Force Research Laboratory

Dr. Keith Bowman is a long-time aerospace engineer and Deputy Chief, Capabilities Integration Division of the Air Force Research Laboratory.  Bowman also shares his knowledge of the aerospace sector as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department at Wright State University.

In addition to his service at Leadership Ohio, Bowman leads RuckUp22, a walk-for-veterans fundraiser that raises awareness and seeks to prevent veteran suicide-- and whose proceeds benefit the Battle Buddy Foundation and Horses for Heroes. Bowman earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dayton.

Alison D. Goebel, Ph.D., Executive Director, Greater Ohio Policy Center

Dr. Alison Goebel is the executive director of the Greater Ohio Policy Center (GOPC). She has been with GOPC since 2010 and has held a number of positions within the organization during that time. Today, Goebel is responsible for charting GOPC's strategic direction, directing the research, advocacy, and outreach teams, and securing resources for this work. She is the author of a number of research reports and policy briefs related to the revitalization of weak-market, legacy cities, transportation funding, and local governance structures in Ohio. From 2005 to 2009, Goebel periodically lived in Mansfield, Ohio where she conducted long-term qualitative research on social relationships in a small city setting.

Goebel holds a Ph.D. and master’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and received her bachelor’s degree from Miami University of Ohio.  She is a graduate of Leadership Ohio and was elected by her class as the recipient of the 2014 "Leader Among Leaders" award.  

Ross McNutt, Ph.D., President and CEO, Persistent Surveillance Systems, MacAir Aviation, and MacNauchtan Development

Dr. Ross McNutt received his Ph.D. from M.I.T. in Rapid Product Development and two masters degrees from M.I.T. in Aeronautics and Astronautics Engineering and Technology Policy. Dr. McNutt's dissertation was on reducing Department of Development (DoD) product development time. He is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and Culver Military Academy.

While assigned to the Pentagon, Dr. McNutt directed the Air Force Cycle Time Reduction Program, started the Warfighter Rapid Acquisition Program, and developed Cost of Delay Analysis to determine the value of time on defense development programs. Dr. McNutt served on the OSD Cycle Time Reduction Task Force as the Air Force Representative. As a Professor of Joint Warfare at Air Command and Staff College, Dr. McNutt taught operational employment of weapons and forces to US and allied field grade officers.

While assigned to Wright Patterson AFB, Colonel McNutt founded the Air Force Center for Rapid Product Development aimed at rapidly developing and fielding new technology in support of US warfighters. There he and his team designed and built Project Angel Fire, the first wide area surveillance system which deployed in support of the Marine Corps in Fallujah, Iraq and four years in Afghanistan. Project Angel Fire received many Air Force level awards for innovation. Dr. McNutt founded the Research and Development Masters degree program and the Operational Technology Programs both designed to teach young officers the practices and implementation of rapid product development through doing.  

Dr. McNutt is currently the president and founder of Persistent Surveillance Systems (PSS), MacAir Aviation, and MacNauchtan Development. A Persistent Surveillance Systems is the developer and provider of a new generation of airborne and ground-based wide area surveillance systems and services. PSS supports federal, state and local law enforcement with surveillance of troubled communities and major event security. McNutt has led the development and deployment of these systems to Philadelphia and Baltimore Police Departments, the U.S. Army at Ft. Leonard Wood, NAVAIR at Yuma Proving Grounds, and has performed full-time wide-area surveillance operations for the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC), Customs and Border Protection, and the Mexican government. MacAir Aviation is a Aviation Services company and supports an Aero Club with over 240 pilots and provides over $3 million in flight training to US Air Force Flight Doctors and other pilots. MacNauchtan Development is a rapid product development firm that develops new ideas and products and develops businesses from them.

Dr. McNutt lives near Dayton Ohio and is married to Air Force Colonel Stacy McNutt.

Londell Smith, Principal, Londell Smith & Associates, LLC

Londell Smith was told by an elementary school teacher that by the time he turned 18 he would be dead, in jail, hooked on drugs or in an insane asylum. He failed 7th grade, and was often told that he was not college material. He barely graduated from high school, and was admitted into college “on condition” because of his low test scores. Smith spent his first college semester taking remedial classes, and was placed on academic probation twice throughout his college career. It took 5½ years for Smith to earn his 4-year undergraduate degree. In addition to overcoming enormous academic challenges, he also survived alcohol and drug abuse.

Today Smith is a husband, father, educator, mentor and small business owner who knows and values people. He is dedicated to giving back to his community, providing practical insight and powerful messages to inspire and encourage the pursuit of personal, family and community success.

Smith is a graduate of the Dayton Urban League’s Black Leadership Development Program, Allen-Lima Leadership, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.’s Leadership Development Program (Gamma Tau Chapter)  and Leadership Ohio. The Founder of Londell Smith & Associates, LLC, Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in Technology from Kent State University and a master’s degree in Organizational Management from Ohio’s Bluffton University.

Tina Whaley, North Ohio Oncology Account Manager, Ambry Genetics

Tina Whaley is the North Ohio Oncology Account Manager for Ambry Genetics. Her career in the healthcare industry spans Roche Diagnostics, Philips Health, and GE Healthcare. Whaley holds a master’s degree in Marketing from Walden University, a bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management from Robert Morris University, and an associate’s degree in Radiological Technology.

Whaley is a Leadership Ohio Graduate, Best Class of 2011 and is currently the PTO Board President for The Goddard School. She resides in Cleveland, Ohio with her husband Jack and three boys.

Dennis Willis, Owner, Somedesa-ActionCoach

Dennis Willis is a certified business coach, providing business help, business advice, business coaching and mentoring services to small and medium sized businesses for more than 13 years.

As a coach and advisor, Willis excels at helping leaders deliver results using tools, methodologies and systems tested and perfected over tens of thousands of businesses worldwide. Willis earned a bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from Wabash College. He resides in Sheffield Lake, Ohio.
